Students Who Show Up for Their Community

At the Monthly Community Health & Resource Fair, Many Shades of Pink, along with volunteer community providers, trains local future college healthcare professionals to perform clinical breast exams and interact with diverse populations, while addressing the unique challenges women of color face in the healthcare system. The Monthly Health & Resource Fair takes place on the First Wednesday of every month at the Jackie Robinson YMCA.

WHAT THEY DO

An Extra Pair of Hands, and a Friendly Face

Students welcome attendees, distribute educational materials, answer general questions, and help connect visitors with available resources. They also help maintain the privacy, comfort, and flow of screening and consultation areas.

Depending on their training and program requirements, students may assist qualified healthcare professionals with breast health education or clinical services under supervision. Just as importantly, they learn how fear, uncertainty, and barriers to care can influence screening decisions—and why respectful, compassionate communication matters.

Point Loma Nazarene University

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT EDUCATION

Physician assistant students from Point Loma Nazarene University have volunteered at multiple MSOP health fairs, supporting breast health education, attendee navigation, event flow, and, when appropriate to their training, clinical activities under supervision.

Their involvement began through the program’s community health work, and several students have since returned independently. Their continued participation reflects a shared commitment to serving the San Diego community.

Concorde Career College

MULTIPLE PROGRAMS

In August 2026, students from Concorde Career College joined us for MSOP’s largest student volunteer turnout to date.

Representing multiple health career programs, the group brought a range of skills and perspectives while helping our team welcome, educate, and support community members.

Bring Your Students

Contact us with your program name, preferred month, and estimated group size. Groups of any size are welcome, and no previous volunteer experience is required. MSOP provides an on-site orientation and clear guidance for each volunteer role.
